The first rallycross event in history was held on 4 February 1967 at Lydden Hill.

It was won by Vic Elford, future Formula One driver who drove a Porsche 911.

Among the other drivers were John Sprinzel, who coined the word "rallycross", and future Rally GB winner Roger Clark.
